Market Comment – BETA SEC

Cautious stance weighed on volumes and sentiment as AthEx failed to follow trends in other major European markets. However, interest in 15-year bond issuance exceeded expectations with the yield closing to historical lows.

General index ended at 933.43 points, shedding 0.30% from Monday’s 936.25 points. The large-cap FTSE 25 index shrank 0.43% to 2,323.68 points, while mid-caps expanded 0.18% and small-caps earned 0.86%. The banks index gave up 0.86%, as Eurobank dropped 1.99%, National fell 0.81%, Piraeus conceded 0.43% and Alpha eased 0.11%. OPAP declined 2.50% and OTE telecom was down 1.39%. GEK Terna bucked the trend, jumping 3.04%, and Sarantis advanced 1.12%. In total 43 stocks reported gains, 59 suffered losses and 25 remained unchanged. Turnover amounted to €51.1m, flat vs. Monday.

After two days of contraction, stock prices are likely to rebound today given the improvement seen in major international markets.

¢    In the Spotlight – BETA SEC

Greece: Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis will head to Paris on Wednesday to meet with French President Emmanuel Macron.  Later in the day he will travel to Brussels for a working dinner with President of the European Council Charles Michel.

Greece/PDMA: Today the Hellenic Republic will auction 26 Weeks T-Bills, in book entry form, with maturity July 31, 2020. The amount to be auctioned is €375mn. Settlement date is January 31, 2020 (T+2). During the auction non – competitive bids can be submitted up to 30% of the auction amount.

Greece/Economy: The orderbook for Greece’s 15-year syndication was heavily oversubscribed, with orders reaching €18.8bn and total issue proceeds amounting to €2.5bn.  The coupon was set at 1.875% with yield at 1.91%.

Banking Sector: Greece is reportedly mulling the issuance of “special purpose bonds” that will serve as an extra credit guarantee for the senior bonds that will be issued under the Hercules-Asset Protection Scheme. Hercules aims at a reduction of banks’ sour loans by some €30bn through securitizations with about €12bn of state guarantees backing the senior notes. The senior tranche of bonds, which will be retained by banks, will need to have a rating of over BB-.

OTE: The company bought 60,000 own shares at €13.7147/share for a total consideration of €822.880. Total treasury stock now amounts to 2.035% of share capital (9,764,743 shares). Labor union OME OTE decided to continue negotiations with OTE management regarding the new collective agreement and some amendments required by the union related to time expiration (2 years instead of 18 months signed initially).

Alpha Bank: The bank is set to issue a €500mn TIER II probably within this week or next Monday.

Nireus: Andromeda’s Seafood stake rose to 92.19% paving the way for a squeeze out and a delisting from ASE.

Piraeus Bank: Piraeus Bank said it assigned the servicing of its property portfolio in Bulgaria worth €130mn to Resolute Asset management. Resolute Asset Management Bulgaria will manage and liquidate the portfolio which includes properties across the country.

Lamda Development: The necessary demolitions and the other preparatory work on the plot of the old Athens airport at Elliniko will start at the end of March at the earliest, after the relevant amendment was passed in Parliament on Monday. That period is required to attain the approval of the Central Archaeological Council and the Central Council for Modern Monuments. Therefore, Elliniko SA, which still belongs to state sell-off fund TAIPED, will be able to ask contractor Lamda Development to execute these works even before the financial completion of the transactions between the state (TAIPED) and Lamda.

  • This last step is likely to take more than two months as it requires the signing of a concession contract with the casino licensee to be selected and the completion the agreement between the Finance Ministry and Lamda as regards the distribution of the property’s ownership. In other related news, Lamda Development is the 100 percent owner of the Flisvos Marina in Palaio Faliro, southern Athens.

This follows the transaction between Lamda and D-Marinas, which belongs to Turkish group Dogus – i.e. a few days before Dogus’ broader divestment from marinas which it has sold to CVC Capital Partners. Lamda had the right of first refusal based on its consortium agreement with Dogus a few years ago, so it has acquired the Turkish group’s 50% holding for €12.93mn.

  • The transfer of the shares is expected to be completed within the first quarter of the year. Then “Lamda will be the sole shareholder of Lamda Dogus Investments, thereby having full control of Lamda Flisvos Marina SA,” the Athens-listed company stated. Recall that Dogus also had stakes, now controlled by CVC Partners, in Zea Marina in Piraeus, Gouvies Marina on Corfu and Lefkas Marina on Lefkada.

Karatzis: Mr Karatzis stake to the company (directly and indirectly through Antkar) reached 87.64% (12,865,136 shares). .
